Over the past 20 years, significant advances have improved our understanding of diagnosis, treatment, and underlying causes of autoimmune encephalitis. Today, our medical community has identified more than 25 antibodies associated with autoimmune encephalitis, with new antibodies under discovery at an astonishing pace. Researchers, physicians, and pharmaceutical companies supporting patients and caregivers are primarily responsible for these discoveries.
From the start, AE Alliance has invested in studies, supporting research focused on the diagnosis, management, and outcomes of individuals with autoimmune encephalitis. In 2021 we inaugurate the AEA Community Seed Grant Program supporting studies that have direct implications for patients with autoimmune encephalitis. We have designated the month of May as AE Research Month, during which we will focus our efforts on research funding, collaborations, and AE Research updates.
We're in the final stretch of our month-long campaign to fund research that leads to faster diagnosis, better treatment, and one day a cure for autoimmune encephalitis. Every gift moves the science forward. Will you help today?
