The AE Family weekend in Durham, NC

January 30, 2019

Just a reminder to let you know that the AE Family weekend is coming up in about four weeks on March 2 in Durham, NC. Meet other families going through similar challenges. Share stories and learn about the latest treatments and discover strategies to make every day better.

HAVE FUN AND GET ACTIVE with our annual Florence Forth road race. You can walk or run (or do a little of both) and if you are not a runner, come and cheer!

EAT AND SHARE at the AE Alliance Family Luncheon. Patients and families will have the chance to share experiences, while enjoying a great lunch.

GAIN INSIGHT from experts in the field of Autoimmune Encephalitis who will talk about the latest developments and answer questions ( Dr. Heather Van Mater (Duke University – pediatric) and Dr. Anusha Yeshokumar (Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai – adult/pediatric)).

GET CREATIVE AND BOND with peers in a specialized workshop aimed at patients age 12 -18 led by Dr. Rebecca Sadun (Duke University).

We invite you to start fundraising and raise awareness for AE. You don’t have to attend the weekend to start fundraising. We have multiple options and you could also donate directly, just follow this link.

What will we use your donations for?

  • Setting up Local Support Groups in 2019. By sharing struggles and celebrations, learning at educational opportunities, exchanging resources, patients and caregivers can experience healing and comfort knowing they are not alone.
  • Research studies. We have had multiple requests to fund research for 2019 and we would like to be supportive of all of them.
  • Creating awareness amongst doctors.
  • Helping both doctors and patients by creating a Patient Packet with lots of resources.

Note that sign-ups for the race and for lunch/other activities must be done separately: Race and Family Lunch.

We are finalizing the details for the weekend and will keep you updated as we go along. If you have any questions, please contact Kimberley de Haseth at kimberley@aealliance.org.
