First AEA Support Group Meeting in NY

November 18, 2019

We are excited to announce the first AEA ‘in-person’ Support Group meeting on December 7 at the Port Washington Library located at 1 Library Drive, Port Washington, NY 11050 from 2 pm – 4:30 pm.

The Support Group Leader, Sydney, has organized for Melissa Jensen, M.A., CCC-SLP of Transitions of Long Island to join us as our guest practitioner to discuss cognitive rehabilitation.

As an expert in the field, Melissa will discuss the importance of the cognitive rehabilitation process, how patients can prepare themselves for this stage of recovery, and what to expect at the cognitive-rehab sessions. Melissa will also join us for a Q&A where she will speak to positive outcomes related to AE cognitive rehabilitation.

Melissa Jensen, M.A. SLP/CCC is a licensed speech-language pathologist working in the neurorehabilitation field for the past 13 years.  She provides evaluation and treatment of disorders including aphasia, dysphagia, dysarthria, apraxia, dysphonia, and cognitive-communication deficits.  She is certified in VitalStim®, a neuro-muscular electrical stimulation and deep pharyngeal neuromuscular stimulation (DPNS) for the rehabilitation of swallow, and LSVT® for rehabilitation of voice.  Melissa graduated from the Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences program at Hofstra University in Long Island, New York in 2006 and has completed doctoral coursework at Adelphi University.
